I have osteoporosis, and have just had an xray, because my ribs are very
painful and burning.
The xrays came out with 2 fractures on my spine..One thoracic and one
Does anyone know how long these spinal fractures take to heal?
You dont say how old you are. I am 71 and have
been taking Fosomax for my poor bone density reading for over 12
months now. I had a fractured rib about 12 years agao now, but it
mended okay before any xray discovered it.
My mother (who will be 98 next week) has had a number of spinal
fractures. The first was when she was around 83 and it was a wedge
fracture of the mid to upper vertebrae - you know the sort that causes
what is called Dowager's Hump. She walked and walked and was in
fairly good condition for someone who was obviously going to either
develop - or already had - osteoporisis. She never actually believed
the medical people who told her she had it, but that's another story!
I think painkillers are the best remedy for as long as it takes for
the fracture to heal. You don't say if these fractures were
diagnosied by xray and where they are. Do you have specialist
surgeon dealing with bone fractures to talk to? If you are in
Auckland I would recommend Mr Cullen - who is very good indeed.
