Can you give me some advice on MRI to check a strawberry hemangioma located near my child's spine for nerve involvement?

Question:
I'd like to know if anyone has ever had a toddler have an MRI. What was it like for the child? Were they sedated and how did the medication affect them? It has been suggested that my 19 month old niece have an MRI to check a strawberry hemangioma located near her spine for nerve involvement.

If anyone could provide info on either subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Our son was approximately 14 months when he underwent an MRI. Oral medication put him to sleep - he did not appear to be in any discomfort. He was "groogy" for a day, but then back to himself. My best advise - don't let your wife watch - it will be more painful for her then it will be for the baby
